M601 — Entry Level Percussion

Basic Snare Drum Technique – using the drum pad to cover grip, proper motions, and basic rudiments of percussion.

Beginning Reading – working on simple etudes to develop understanding of music notation as it applies to non-pitched percussion, specifically rhythmic notation and meter notation, using etude book.

M602 — Intermediate Percussion

Continuation of rudimental study and technique, developing chops.

Intermediate Level Reading – studying etudes with more advanced concepts such as rolls, and other advanced rudiments, as well as more complex meters and rhythms. As per interest of student, introduction to mallet instruments and pitch reading.

M603 — Advanced Percussion College Audition Preparation

Advanced sight reading and solo learning from high school grade literature.

Continued development of mallet facility and pitch reading, as well as jazz improvisation techniques on mallet instruments.

Beginning timpani study, as per interest of student and availability of instruments.

Study of difficult drum set music from 20th century repertoire, such as fusion, be-bop, latin, etc.

Emerging Performers / Percussion

All students are encouraged to perform in public. As study continues, certain artists will progress to a level that prepares them for opportunites to perform and be recognized at select community events throughout the year.
